NAMI Luzerne-Wyoming Counties offer facts, support and understanding to anyone seeking information about mental illnesses. Ranging from signs and symptoms of mental illness to the most current treatment options, our NAMI affiliate is here to meet the needs of the community in Luzerne and Wyoming County.

NAMI Luzerne-Wyoming Counties actively supports policies and initiatives that improve the lives of community members living with mental illness and their families. Become a part of NAMI! Signature Programs Offered by NAMI Luzerne-Wyoming Counties

The following NAMI programs & support groups provide free education, training and support to attendees, with the unique perspective of being led by trained peers following a structured, proven model.

NAMI Family-to-Family- an educational program for loved ones of people living with mental health conditions. The course is designed to facilitate a better understanding of mental health conditions, increase coping skills and empower participants to become advocates for their family members.

NAMI Family Support Group - peer-led support group for individuals whom have a loved one living with mental illness. Led by other family members, you are afforded the opportunity to gain insight from the challenges and successes of others facing similar circumstances. This group allows your voice to be heard and provides an opportunity for your personal needs to be met, permitting you to gain hope and develop supportive relationships with individuals who understand. NAMI Peer-to-Peer- an 8-session educational program for adults age 18 and over, living with mental illness. The series is taught by trained leaders with lived experience. The program includes activities, discussions and informative videos, allowing participants to gain a better understanding of their condition and pathways toward building insight on their recovery.

NAMI Connection- a peer-led support group that follows a structured model for those living with mental illness. You will gain insight from other’s experiences, discover your own inner strength and empower yourself through sharing your experiences. Offered in a safe and confidential setting, you can gain hope and develop a connection. The group encourages empathy, productive discussion and a sense of community. NAMI In Our Own Voice - a presentation for the general public designed to change attitudes, assumptions and ideas about people with mental health conditions by offering a platform for an honest, open dialogue, to promote awareness of mental health conditions and recovery. In Our Our Own Voice provides a personal perspective of mental illness. Presenters with lived experience speak candidly about what it’s like to live with a mental health condition and audience members have an opportunity to ask questions in order to get a deeper understanding of mental health conditions and dispelling myths and stereotypes. (Offered in 40, 60, or 90-minute presentations)

NAMI Luzerne-Wyoming Counties has an extensive library of literature spanning a variety of mental health topics, including historical perspectives, reference materials and case studies, memoirs, information on specific diagnoses and many more. Check out our collection and feel free to sign something of interest out. All that we ask is that you return it when finished so that many more will benefit from reading it!

Our NAMI affiliate offers educational programming, seminars and workshops on a variety of topics to all members of the community. We will also tailor a presentation for your community group or organization, based on your specific needs or criteria.

NAMI Luzerne/Wyoming Counties provides advocacy assistance for legislative proposals that have an impact on those affected by mental illness. We will answer questions, provide resources and inform our members of local, state and federal policy that is of utmost importance or requires action.
