dedicated to building better lives for those affected by mental illness

Who is NAMI Luzerne & Wyoming Counties?

NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness.

What started as a small group of families gathered around a kitchen table in 1979 has blossomed into the nation’s leading voice on mental health. Today, we are part of an association of hundreds of local affiliates, state organizations and volunteers who work in your community to raise awareness and provide support and education that was not previously available to those in need.

Our NAMI chapter is dedicated to provided resources and support to those who live in Luzerne & Wyoming Counties of Pennsylvania.

Mental Health Get Help Now

The families and members of NAMI Luzerne/Wyoming Counties are here to help!

We offer understanding to anyone concerned about mental illnesses and the treatment of mental illness.

Mental illnesses are brain disorders that are biologically based medical problems. Untreated, they can cause severe disturbances in thinking, feeling and relating. This results in substantially diminished capacity for dealing with the ordinary demands of life.

Mental illness can affect persons of any age and occur in any family. They are not caused by bad parenting and not evidence of weakness of character.

Our Goals

NAMI advocates at the county, state and national levels for non-discriminatory access to quality healthcare, housing, education and employment for individuals living with mental illness. NAMI helps shape national public policy to ensure better opportunities for people living with mental illness and their families.

Through educational programming NAMI provides members and volunteers with the tools and resources necessary to promote the development of effective self-advocacy skills, thereby empowering and elevating those affected by mental health concerns to achieve an improved quality of life.

 Our Vision

Public awareness events and activities, including Mental Illness Awareness Week activities and NAMI Walks, successfully combat stigma and prejudices relating to mental illness, and promote acceptance, inclusivity and understanding.  NAMI envisions a world where all people affected by mental illness live healthy, fulfilling lives supported by a community that cares.
